Superdry x Idris Elba
Superdry has collaborated with one of the coolest guys around at the minute and I get to rock one of his coats.
When I was younger and in my school years, one of the first brands I wanted to wear was Superdry. My first purchase was the windcheater jacket and I pretty much lived in it. It’s the brand of my childhood and I didn’t think then that I’d ever be working with them.
Now perhaps out of touch out with the brand a little, a rather exciting collaboration has allowed me to be reintroduced to the playground favourite. The new Idris Elba x Superdry collection is something that intrigued me and when asked to take a look at the new campaign it was hard to say no. With the Leading London Coat from the collection, I set my sights on a beach day, albeit a drizzly one in mid-November.
It is a premium menswear collection, made up of a rather expansive 250 pieces and is much more focused on subtle branding and even better fabrics, which for me is a good step for Superdry. Personally, with its normal ranges, the quality of material is sometimes lost behind heavy branding and to see the Idris Elba collection move away from that and focus on these basics is great.
I went for an outfit fit for the beach (in November), pretty much matching the sea in terms of tones. The navy flecked coat feels very heavy and warm and it was the dialled down details like on the shoulder and the inside pressed Idris Elba x Superdry stamps that made for nice touches. Then with a basic wool jumper and brogues combination, it was up to my scarf to inject a bit more colour.
Idris Elba may not be someone who gets seen in fashion circles and among the front row at LCM, but it seems the actor has made a collection for those that just want good quality clothing. I’ll be heading over to the store tomorrow for the launch where I’ll be posting some photos from my social channels. I’m sure I wasn't alone in having a soft spot for Superdry in the past?jbicon
Could 2023 be the ultimate year of sustainability for fashion? Probably not, but there are some positive things happening if you look for them.
